You are God's Masterpiece

Sometimes I wonder what God’s plan or purpose for my life is. I’m a very forward thinking person so these thoughts are a daily occurrence for me. I know that God knows the path my life will take but I can’t help that I’m curious :)

But the Word for today came out of Ephesians 2:10 which declares that we are God’s workmanship. The word for workmanship is originally poiema which means ‘masterpiece’.

How did we become God’s workmanship? We are God’s workmanship because we have been created in Christ Jesus. Where before we were dead in our trespasses and sins (2:1) now we are God masterpiece!

But we weren’t created for no reason. God has a plan and purpose for each of His children - to do good works.

Notice that good works is in the correct place in this verse meaning that the title of God’s workmanship is not earned by doing good works but rather the works are the result.

These good works can mean several things:

(1) General works such as loving God and loving your neighbor

and/or

(2) Specialized works that are unique to each of His children

God prepared these works in advance for you. Not so you could ‘work in them’, but rather ‘walk in them’. Another way of saying this is that God prepared a path of good works that He will accomplish through His workmanship as they walk by faith, trust, and depend on Him.

The reality is that I don’t know what that path looks like for me. I don’t know what the plan is or what the good works are that God has prepared in advance for me. BUT as long as I am walking along the path that God has laid before me, and am depending on Him for every step of the journey, I can rest in the fact that God will accomplish that good work for my life. And the prize at the end is not in celebrating our accomplishment but it is the fact that He displayed His glory through us.

Challenge: Rest in the fact that you are God’s masterpiece. He already know the path and what He will accomplish through you. Rely fully on Him for guidance along that path.
